The Halal National Mark is a unified Halal mark for the UAE market. No other mark or logo claiming a product as Halal is allowed on the market. This eliminates consumer’s confusion and increases confidence in the products which are Halal certified.
The HNM is a quality mark recognized not only in the UAE, but in the entire region. Trust in products bearing the mark is very high. Thus, it boosts consumer confidence which in turn, increases sales of the product. The mark has not to compete with a multitude of other logos in the market and therefore enjoys universal recognition.
In order to qualify for the HNM, a Halal certificate recognized in the UAE is the most important requirement in order to be eligible to acquire the license. Thus, one needs to distinguish between the HNM and the Halal certification. An imported product may have a valid Halal certification, but the manufacturer might have opted not to acquire the license to bear the HNM.
For every product the Halal National Mark is optional. Although Halal certification can be mandatory for certain products, it is not to mark the products as Halal. Please note that no other Halal logo is allowed to be used in the UAE market, so if you chose not to claim your Halal certified products as such with the HNM, you cannot do so with any other logo as well.
The HNM is a well-recognized mark in all GCC countries and beyond. It’s a well-established brand in the region and the trust in products bearing the mark is usually very high.
An on-site audit exceeding the usual Halal certification audit is not necessary. You can obtain the HNM license during the Halal certification process, or you can choose to go only for the certification and obtain the HNM at a later point. In the latter case only a document review is necessary for the HNM.
The licensing cost of the HNM is currently 2000 AED (United Arab Emirates Dirham) excl. tax for three years, which equals approximately 550 Euro, but can vary based on the exchange rate. Please note that these are the pure licensing costs for the Halal National Mark (HNM), a valid Halal certification is a necessary requirement to be able to obtain the mark. If you apply for the HNM without the Halal certification, because you already own it, a small application fee will be added to the costs.
