ECAS is a certification that proves that the product complies with regulations set forward by the UAE authorities. It’s mandatory for many product categories and one of the documents necessary to clear shipments coming into the United Arab Emirates.

For certain products regulated in the UAE market the ECAS certification is mandatory. A list of regulated products can be found here.

For products regulated under ECAS, there is in almost all cases no on-site audit necessary, the certificate can be issued through document review only.

Please note that if you opt for the EQM as an alternative or Halal certification, or if those or other certifications are mandatory, an on-site audit might still be necessary. For the ECAS certification itself however, there is no on-site audit required.

There are a few exceptions where an on-site audit for ECAS is necessary, such as for cables & wires, water heaters, or organic products.

Yes, instead of ECAS for regulated products, you can in almost all cases opt for the Emirates Quality Mark (EQM) (see here for details about EQM) instead. This brings the benefit with it that you can use the EQM to hallmark your products, which is a widely recognized quality mark in the region, and thus boosts consumer confidence and increases sales.

For a few product categories (e.g. tobacco) it is neither possible to opt for the EQM instead of the ECAS, nor to choose EQM as an additional certification option.
